Budgets
In August of each year county department heads present their proposed departmental budgets to the county commissioners for review and recommendation. Once this process is complete, a Public Hearing is held in order to present their preliminary findings to the public. During October, following the Public Hearing, the budget advisory committee convenes to review and make recommendation to the commissioners’ proposed budget. The budget advisory committee is formulated by county commissioner districts; elections are held at public caucuses for each district in order to elect either one municipal officer or one representative of the public from each commissioner district. An Informational Meeting is held in November in order to present the budget advisory committee’s recommendations to the public. The county commissioners shall act on the budget no later than 15 days before the end of the county’s fiscal year.
